Each cottage is thoughtfully built into the natural rock formations and features a spacious bedroom, an open sitting area, a private veranda, and a generous bathroom—all positioned to showcase sweeping, uninterrupted views. Guests enjoy unmatched privacy across the vast wilderness of Elsa’s Kopje, which spans 870 km² (215,000 acres) of pristine African terrain. This extraordinary landscape includes a flourishing rhino sanctuary and is celebrated for its impressive elephant herds, hippos, lions, and remarkable birdlife. Meru National Park is also noted for having the greatest diversity of wildlife species of any park in East Africa.
Elsa’s Kopje played a pivotal role in reviving the remote and rugged Meru National Park, evolving into an award-winning boutique lodge recognized for its environmental commitment and elegant design. Named Africa’s Best Safari Property by the Good Safari Guide, the lodge is admired as one of the continent’s finest. Designed and built by Stefano Cheli, it was officially opened in 1999 by Dr. Richard Leakey of the Kenya Wildlife Service and Virginia McKenna of Born Free fame.
